Rich grew up in Cheney, Washington where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Education, and received his Principal’s credentials at Washington State University. He taught and coached wrestling at Selkirk Junior-Senior High School in Ione, Washington for twelve years, K-12 Principal at Pomeroy for six years, and Junior-Senior High Principal at Asotin for twelve years. He served as Executive Director of the Lewiston-Clarkston Habitat for Humanity for 10 years, and State Board Chair for Habitat for Humanity of Idaho for 3 years. Rich joined Congo-Pres, along with his wife, Carrie Gurgel, twenty years ago. He has served at the church as the Mission and Community Outreach Chair, Board Nominating Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and most recently as the Co-Chair of the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee. Rich has two grow children, Rick and Tina, five grown step-children, Jason, Mat, Jolene, Jesse and Danelle, sixteen grandchildren, and five great-grandsons. He enjoys carpentry, metalworking, collecting coins, genealogy, hiking and camping, fly fishing and fly tying.
