Dear Church Family,
The past two years we have offered a Wednesday evening program for adults and children. Two years ago we gathered for The Story, a nine-month journey through God’s Word, and last year we explored Believe, a 30-lesson study of the basic beliefs of our Christian faith. In addition to the program itself, which met 6:00-7:00pm, the Children’s Chime Choir rehearsed 5:00-5:30pm and we all gathered 5:30-6:00pm for a light supper where we met new people, caught up with friends and spent time with our own family.
This fall we will continue our Wednesday evening program and we are going to give it a name: MidWeek at Congo-Pres. Following the same time frame as last year, we will have Chime Choir rehearsal, a light supper, a video-based program for the adults, and Kids Club for the children. Also, one or two additional adult offerings are in the works for MidWeek at Congo-Pres and we look forward to sharing more about those with you soon.
MidWeek at Congo-Pres will begin on September 13. Kicking off the adult program will be a 7-week video series on Grace by well-known Christian author and speaker Max Lucado, followed by a 6-week video series on Prayer by Anne Graham Lotz, the daughter of evangelist Billy Graham. Each week we will watch a brief video followed by discussion around our tables.
Let me share with you a little more about our first series on Grace which is sub-titled More Than We Deserve - Greater Than We Imagine. In this series, Max Lucado calls us to consider the abundant richness of God’s offer of grace. It’s an offer to live a changed life, a call to genuine transformation and the courage to see it through. As believers in Christ we know that grace is the key to our relationship with God. We’ve been taught that we are saved by grace, but have we really taken hold of it? Or rather, has it taken hold of us?
When we meet together as God’s people around a topic like grace, something more happens to us than just learning a few new things about the subject. As we meet, the Holy Spirit is present with us, and our thoughts and conversations allow him to move among us and bind us together as friends in Christ. We will not only be talking about grace – WE WILL EXPERIENCE GRACE!
One last thing. Throughout the year our meal menus are planned ahead of time and people are given the opportunity to sign up for what they would like to bring. However, our first meal together on September 13 is “ Potluck.” So, if you are able to join us, bring whatever dish you would like to share with others and come with a good appetite to enjoy the wonderful food.
Yours in Christ,
