Hello friends!
Happy Easter, and Happy Spring!
During the summer, as we’re travelling and beating the heat, here are some updates of what’s going on so you can look forward to this summer.
As a reminder, I’ll be away from the office and pulpit at the end of May, and will be back July 20th. During the 7 weeks that I’m gone, I’d like to invite you to read Jack Levison’s daily devotional Seven Secrets to the Spirit-Filled Life. The “secrets” are open secrets: anticipate that God can move in your life, read scripture, commit to community, walk with God during tough times, break out of the familiar, and pass on to others what you have been blessed with. This is a great devotional that takes bite-sized references from scripture and opens up how the Holy Spirit of God worked in the scriptures, and can work today. It’s both informative and practical. I’m going to be reading this during my seven weeks away, and if you’re interested, I’d encourage you to get a copy and read along with me while I’m away. When I return in July, we can compare notes of what we learned and experienced.
On the Nex-Gen director search, as we’ve been at this search for a while, we’re contracting with Ministry Architects, a ministry consulting group, to help us in our search. On May 27th-28th, we’ll have a number of listening sessions with one of their consultants, who will take what he hears and apply it to the search process.
Ministry Architects is going to expand our search with their networks of contacts to look for a Nex-Gen Director. We’ll have different listening groups for different groups in our community (Parents/Grandparents, volunteers, leadership), and we’ll post those dates soon.
Towards the end of May, we are blessed to have London Meredith as our Sum-mer Fellow (intern) from Whitworth University! He’ll be joining us for 12 weeks and will be staying in the Youth House. London is a freshman who is pursuing
degrees in both Jazz Performance and Business management. His degree is in
upright bass, but he can play a variety of instruments. He’ll be helping out with VBS this summer, assisting the children’s ministry on Sundays, and will be working along-side Beth and other worship leaders this summer, as well as helping with youth minis-try and taking part throughout the life of our church.
How you can help: To make the most of our money, we give a scholarship to Whitworth who uses that for his tuition. So instead of a typical homestay where a family hosts the intern, we’re going to have him stay in the youth house, and offer him meals for his fridge, host him in your home, or take him out for meals. Here’s how you can help: Can you provide him some meals (or a big casserole), or host him for dinner, or some other way? Look out for opportunities to sign up and contribute to our sum-mer intern’s experience.
Our Summer Outreach event is looking to happen in the late summer to connect with our local neighbors. We’re looking at gathering for food, fun, and potentially music on the LCSC green across the street from our church. We’ll have all kinds of needs to help pull of this event to connect with our neighbors. Stay tuned this summer for ways that you can help.
VBS is happening this summer in the last four Wednesdays of July. As our fan-tastic Children’s Ministry team plans it, consider volunteering and signing up so we can provide a safe, fun place for our children to love God and one another.
Blessings to you this Spring! If you need anything, or want to talk, reach out to the office, send me an email, flag me down on a Sunday morning, and I’d be happy to connect.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Adam
